Estonian journalist Parmo Laasi: “Activeness of voters in Azerbaijan is higher even than the European standards”

15. oktoober 2008 Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. “The presidential elections in Azerbaijan fully meet European standards in terms of technical and organizational preparation,” member of Estonia’s observation mission, journalist Parmo Laasi told APA exclusively. Parmo Laasi, who participated in the exit poll in the parliamentary elections in 2005, said he had observed the voting in several polling stations in Sumgayit.
“The elections are normal, activeness of voters is higher even than the European standards. Of course queues in the polling stations create some problems, but on the other hand demonstrates activeness of the voters. One can meet it in the elections in Estonia, too. But unlike Azerbaijan opposition parties take active part in the elections in Estonia. But it does not mean that the elections in Azerbaijan are antidemocratic. Being a journalist I can say that there is normal election atmosphere in Azerbaijan,” he said.
